What Is Gender Expansive Sizing?
Gender expansive sizing is about creating a fit system that doesn’t assume your gender identity determines your body shape. Traditional “men’s” and “women’s” sizing comes with built-in assumptions — about height, waist-to-hip ratios, shoulder width, chest size, and more. Those assumptions exclude a lot of us.
Gender expansive sizing asks:
- What do real bodies look like when you stop forcing them into binaries?
- How can we design around bodies, not labels?
- What if clothing met you where you are — instead of making you conform to a system that never considered you?
How We’re Doing It Differently
This isn’t just about putting an “X” or a “+” on a size tag and calling it radical. We’re rebuilding from the inside out.
Our first sizing experiment is focused on data, fit trials, and real feedback from real people — not just models. We’re considering things like:
- Broader range of shoulder widths and torso lengths
- Non-gendered waist-to-hip assumptions
- Options for layered identities, like being curvy and masc, or tall and femme
- Materials and cuts that adapt, stretch, and affirm
